Applebee’s Wood Fire Grill Is What We Are Having For Dinner

With our busy lives it is great to have a night out to dinner and to be able to sit down and to have a real meal with no mess. We normally do dinner at home or drive thru as we are always on the go doing something. Applebee’s is always a family favorite as we all can find a great meal to eat.

Spinach & Artichoke DipI ordered the Spinach & Artichoke Dip while we looked over the menu. Our son’s girlfriend was with hubby and I for dinner and she never had this before.  I can now say she loves Spinach & Artichoke Dip.

Menu After going through the whole menu we all chose to get the USDA Choice Top Sirloin steak and two delectable sides for just $9.99. We all got the steaks the way we wanted them cooked and the two sides of our choice. One side we all got was the Crispy Cheddar Bacon Potatoes to try since they are new. I also got the House Salad for $3.49 extra.

Applebee's wood fire grill

The food was great and we all enjoyed our wood fire grill steaks. Our son’s girlfriend tried the Maple Pecan Mashed Sweet Potatoes and this was her first time trying  them, She wasn’t a big fan of them but we were proud she tried something new. The server did bring her an order of fries at no charge.

From there my life for 30 days is a blur. I had 2 brain surgerys and they have caused me to loose my eye sight. I can only see out of my right eye.

DSCN0011I had family that came over for a long over due family reunion holiday dinner and I was excited to see everyone. I didn't want to be stuck in the kitchen all day having to cook a big meal. I knew I could turn to the HoneyBaked Ham store in Grand Rapids, MI for help. I went with the bone in ham and boneless smoked turkey. I also got mashed cauliflower and orange basil glazed carrots as my heat and serve sides. The mashed cauliflower was great and I can't wait to get it again. The desert that I got was the bananas Foster bread pudding. I had no problems picking out my food at the HoneyBaked Ham store and was in and out with in a few minutes.

DSCN0066I really loved the fact that I was able to focus on spending time with my family and not having to be in the kitchen cooking. My family loved the food and it was all the rave. I was having so much fun talking and enjoying my time with my family I almost forgot to take pictures! I was able to catch a few during meal time.

DSCN0060Here is my dinner plate and with everyone bringing a dish to pass there was more than enough food for everyone. I have always been pleased with my food from HoneyBaked Ham and this time I was extremely pleased with the time it gave me to spend with my family that I hadn't seen in years. Mom’s All Homemade 4th of July Cookout

Table all setMy mom loves to cook and bake. When ever there is a holiday my mom will have us over for dinner. Everything my mom makes is all homemade and you can taste it. This time my mom had my extra camera and did step by step pictures, so I could do a post on my site. The following is all pretty much my mom's work. I am just putting the post together for her. My mom will show you how to make Potato salad, Macaroni salad, Pistachio pudding salad and quick and easy corn on the cob.

Potatoe Salad6 to 8 Potatoes boiled in their skins — cool to room temperature then refrigerate in their skins ( this keeps the starch in the potatoes )
6 to 8 eggs boiled, peeled refrigerated

Salad saucePotato Salad:
Peel potatoes and cube
Slice eggs in half, put yokes in food processor for silky smooth sauce (keep 2 eggs to slice over top of the finished salad)
pulse the yokes till they are fine crumbles then add:
1 cup mayo
2 tablespoons mustard
1 teaspoon garlic salt
Pulse to combine into a silky sauce
salt and pepper to taste
Add sliced celery, radishes and minced onions to taste. I like a lot of veggies so I slice at least 4 or 5 ribs of celery, 3 radishes and I mince up about 1/2 onion really fine so my picky daughter cannot see it!!
Gently stir all together in a really big bowl – slice the 2 remaining eggs and lay on top then sprinkle with paprika

Potato SaladMacaroni Salad:
Same sauce as for potato salad
Boil 1 – 16oz. box of any shape pasta and cool ( do not rinse ) We need the starch on the pasta.
Boil eggs, peel and refrigerate then follow steps as above
I add the same veggies as for potato salad, then add 1/2 pound of cubed ham and 1/4 pound of cubed Colby/Jack cheese
Stir gently and top with slice eggs, dust with paprika

Macaroni SaladKeeping the starch in the potatoes and on the pasta helps to prevent the salads from getting watery. Remember: if you have a picky eater that you must chop the veggies very small, my picky girl is 34 years old and hates her veggies !! Hope you enjoy these.

Pistachio Pudding SaladPistachio Pudding Salad:
1 small box instant pistachio pudding mixed well with 1  lg.can of crushed pineapple and the juice
than add 3/4 cup finely chopped pecans, a large amount ( 1/2 bag) of mini marshmallows multi colored is my daughters favorite and 8oz. of cool whip. Stir gently and put in serving vessel. For those of us old enough – this used to be called the WATERGATE SALAD.

Pistachio Pudding SaladMicrowave cornNow for the corn on the cob. After you husk your corn and clean it you can wrap it plastic wrap. Make sure to cut strips of paper towel for easy opening. Do not, I repeat DO NOT put butter on the corn. If you do the plastic wrap will melt. After your corn is all wrapped you can put it in the microwave. You microwave for 3 minutes then turn it and go for another 3 minutes and then serve. The corn is done to perfection.

Mom made cup cakes and Blue Berry Buckle

BBQ chickenMom's secret to the perfect BBQ chicken is to par boil it first and while still warm put it in a sealable dish and seal it with your BBQ sauce. When the chicken cools it will suck the sauce in. Then you put it on the grill to warm it up and to give it that grilled taste.

my plateThis was my dinner plate and I had BBQ chicken, grilled pork loin, potato & mac salad.

Mom's plateThis is my mom's dinner plate and she had black stuffed olives.

Hubby & IAfter dinner we went downtown to watch the fireworks. The day was great and I was able to spend quality time with my family and friends

Bonefish Grill Restaurant in Grand Rapids MI

bonefish_happinesshereTMMy husband and I had never ate at Bonefish Grill until last weekend. We went on a Sunday and even though it's not mandatory I would highly recommend calling ahead and making a reservation. I did not do this but only had to wait 10 minutes before we were seated. The restaurant doesn't have a mandatory dress code but I would suggest dressing up a little. I still wore jeans with a nice shirt.

Hubby & IHubby and I for our dinner date and we didn't even plan on matching but we did. I let my long hang down for this date. The Parking at the Bonefish grill in Grand Rapids MI isn't the best as there is a round about drop off right in front of the entrance and parking spots are a little walk. I would suggest if your handicap to get dropped off at the door or if your spoiled like me, My husband dropped me off at the door so I didn't have to walk through the snow.

BFG Imperial DipFor starters we ordered the BFG Imperial Dip: creamy with crab meat, shrimp + scallops served with crispy flatbread chips. Now at first hubby and I didn't know what to expect as we have never tried anything like this before. The dip smelled great and we dug in.

The big chunks of shrimpThe BFG Imperial Dip had very nice size pieces of shrimp, crab meat & scallops. The dip tasted great and is well worth a try. Hubby and I really liked it and can't wait to go back and have it again. The crispy flatbread chips were a nice touch as they didn't fill you up before your main course.

Bread with Pesto dipping sauceBread with Pesto dipping sauce

We then got a hot loaf of bread with Pesto dipping sauce. The bread and sauce were a great touch.

Corn Chowder Corn Chowder Hubby got the Corn Chowder + Lump Crab with a hint of bacon. Hubby said he really liked the taste of the Corn Chowder and before I knew it he had it gone.

Bonefish Caesar house-made I got the Bonefish Caesar house-made salad with garlic croutons. The Caesar salad tasted great and was very filling.

feb2013 024feb2013 028I got the Sirloin *+ Crab Cake Dinner which is a 6 oz “center cut” sirloin + jumbo lump crab cake, Then I choose French Green Beans as my side. I got my steak well done and it was perfect. The steak just fell apart and was very tasty. The steak had no grizzly parts at all. I was very pleased with my steak.

feb2013 030The crab cake was my first ever and it tasted great. The flavors of the crab cake are kinda fishy but not over powering.

feb2013 025My husband got the Angler’s Steak *USDA Choice sirloin 11 oz and choose Garlic Whipped Potatoes as his side. Hubby got his steak medium well and was cooked to perfection. The potatoes were very light and tasted great.

feb2013 010Our dinner was great and was a great place for our date night. Our total bill was $60+ and we only had pop with our dinner. Hubby and I feel the service and food shows in the quality for the price. I plan on going back and would recommend this place for one to try.
