Popcorn ballI just spent this past Saturday with my mom and we tried out our treat making skills making some popcorn treats, as I was given a few products from JOLLY TIME & Good Cook to help with this. I can say the time I spent with my mom was great. So buckle up and enjoy my story with plenty of pics.

ProductsI got a 2 QT Sauce pan, Spatula, Candy Thermometer, and a Stainless Steel Rubber Base mixing bowl from Good Cook to use in my popcorn treat making.

JOLLY TIME popcorn ballerJOLLY TIME Pop Corn sent me a variety of popcorn and a popcorn baller. I even got some of their new Smart Balance Butter Light popcorn.

Making the syrupMy mom used these ingredients to make the syrup for the popcorn balls:

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup light-colored corn syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla

Cooking the SyrupWe had to clip the candy thermometer to the sauce pan and brought the mixture to 250 degree F, which is hard-ball stage for about 20 minutes.

Ready to make popcorn ballsMy mom and I both were set up and ready to start making popcorn balls

pouring the syrup over popcornMy mom poured the syrup mixture over the hot popcorn and we stirred gently to coat all of the popcorn. We added in our candies and nuts when the syrup cooled a little. Then we tried to make popcorn balls but for some reason they just wouldn't stick together so my mom never wanting to give up put the pop corn mixture in a pan.

pan popcornWe then added some candy eyes on the top of the popcorn treat and placed it in the refrigerator to cool.

  1. I love the eyeballs and the little pumpkins in the finished product – these ones work for any sort of fall festival or celebration, not just for Halloween! I love some of the other ideas in the Good Cook section, too – I’m not 100% sold on coconut mocha popcorn balls, but I think I’m willing to risk it!

  2. A fun bonding, family experience! Popcorn balls are great; it’s even better when you can tweak the recipes to make them festive, too. Good cook has some great products.

  3. I’m not going to lie, I would eat all of those popcorn balls and be sick for a month. Yet it would be worth it.

  4. They look wonderful, and I’m sure they can be adapted to another holiday. I wonder why they wouldn’t stick together. I think I’ve seen recipes whereby the sugar solution is heated to higher than 250, but I’m not sure.
