New Year’s Eve celebrations occur far and wide across the globe. Some of the best fireworks of the year take place on the last night of each December, and these cities go all out!

CNN sites that some of the best places to travel around the world to watch incredible fireworks shows include Hong Kong, Sydney, Dubai, London, Rio de Janeiro, New York, and Las Vegas.

Las Vegas, located east of Red Apple® fireworks, is known around the world not only for its casinos and restaurants, but also for its New Year’s Eve fireworks. Thanks to the high rises of all of the hotels on and off the strip, it is simple to book a room (far in advance to get the one you want!) and watch the show from above the street. However, many tourists and locals alike flock to Las Vegas Boulevard, which is roped off for pedestrian use, and watch the fireworks from the ground, drinks in hand. In 2019, the Las Vegas fireworks show will consist of more than 80,000 fireworks to be shot off the roofs of ARIA Resort & Casino, Caesars Palace, MGM Grand Hotel & Casino, Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino, Stratosphere Casino Hotel & Tower, The Venetian, and Treasure Island.

New York, of course, is widely considered to be one of the biggest New Year’s Eve hotspots every year. With the allure of Times Square and the crystal ball covered in 2,688 Waterford Crystal triangles that have been specially designed and cut for maximum sparkle atop 32,000 LED lights in red, blue, green, and white, it’s no wonder that people flock to the Big Apple. More than a million people are estimated to attend the infamous ball drop in NYC to ring in 2019. And it makes sense! This year there will be performances by The Revelers, Neil Diamond, and Mariah Carey, just to name a few.

Most people picture warm beaches and Carnival when they think of Rio de Janeiro. But did you know that the New Year’s Eve celebration is considered to be an even bigger, better party than Carnival? The #1 spot to visit for NYE is Copacabana Beach, and an estimated 2 million people (tourists and locals alike) are expected to be in attendance. Besides a spectacular fireworks show, locals enjoy celebrating the New Year by wearing significant colors (such as white for peace and green for hope), offering presents to the Queen of the Ocean – Lemanjá, jumping over seven waves to grant seven wishes for the new year, and eating traditional New Year’s food.

Watching the amazing fireworks over the Sydney Opera House is made incredibly simple, thanks to its free entry. While there are numerous parties to attend to celebrate the New Year, most of Sydney’s NYE events are family friendly. Plus, one of the best things about visiting Australia for the New Year is that December is smack-dab in the middle of summer on that side of the world, meaning celebrations will be warm and reminiscent of Fourth of July! People who attend can also choose to watch the fireworks from the harbor as they cruise around the city drinking champagne.

Dubai is synonymous with luxury and its New Year’s Eve fireworks shows fall right in line! Watch the show at Burj Khalifa or attend the Dubai Fountain for an entrancing water-music dance and light show. Most areas offer free access to view the extravagance of Dubai’s New Year’s Eve celebrations, although if you were hoping to enjoy a delectable meal at one of the upscale restaurants nearby while you watch, you should definitely book a table far in advance!

Hong Kong provides an eclectic mix of Chinese traditions and traditions from the rest of the world. There are a multitude of styles and cuisines packed into this city, making a New Year’s Eve trip there fun for more reasons than only fireworks. However, their fireworks show is absolutely not to be missed! Taking place over Victoria Harbor, pyrotechnics in Hong Kong space out the show for an hour before midnight, allowing locals and visitors alike to wish upon the shooting stars made by the fireworks. At midnight, the rest of the show goes off spectacularly, often with a musical soundtrack specially composed for the show itself.

No matter where you decide to go to celebrate New Year’s Eve, it will surely be a night to remember. Here’s to wishing you well in 2019 and to having an amazing night!
