Cleaning pumpkin outMy husband used the scraper in the kit to clean the guts out of the pumpkin and the scraper worked really great.

Using a stencil

My husband used the Frankenstein stencil from the Sweet Creations Pumpkin Carving Kit. For some reason we could not get the clear tape to stick to the pumpkin so I went and got a few band-aids. The band-aids worked like a charm. I guess band-aids will stick to anything lol My husband liked using the punch wheel to trace out the stencil.

Finished pumpkinThis is my husbands finished pumpkin. He hadn't done a pumpkin in years. I used a battery powered blue light to light the pumpkin up. I think the pumpkin looks great.

Halloween cookiesMy mom got creative this past weekend and made use Halloween cookies. The cookies are sugar cookies. My mom made cats, bats, houses, witches, ghosts pumpkins and frankensteins.

Sweet Creations by Good Cook Haunted Gingerbread House Kit

Sweet Creations by Good Cook haunted houseSo with Halloween approaching I was given a chance to do a Sweet Creations by Good Cook Haunted Gingerbread House. I was excited to do my own Gingerbread house. When I got the kit pictured above I realized that I would have to make my own Gingerbread as this kit is just the cutters for the house.

House cuttersWow I thought when I opened the box and saw the cutters. I have never made Gingerbread before so I called my mom who can make or bake anything and asked for her help. Well my mom made me a deal and that was, she would make and bake the gingerbread house pieces for me. I was then to take it home and complete the house at my house lol

back of kitMy mom used the recipe on the back of the haunted house kit to make the gingerbread for the house. My mom had no problems at all.

putting the house togetherNow I learned real quick why my mom wanted me to put the house together at my own home. Want to test the strength of a marriage? Then put a gingerbread house together. I love my husband dearly but I can say there were some very tense moments. The haunted house pieces were done great and we took the advice from my mom to decorate the pieces before putting the house together.

close upHubby used some metal rods to hold the walls up on the house until the royal frosting dried. I thought that the rods worked like a charm. The house only took a few hours to fully dry and the rods were removed and left no marks. The haunted gingerbread house only took about an hour to put together.

Husband work on the houseMy husband completed the roof as I was too scare that the roof would fall in. I sat back and watched as I thought for sure it was going to. completed houseThe Sweet Creations by Good Cook Haunted Gingerbread House turned out great for being our first one ever. Overall I had so much fun doing this with my wonderful husband. I now know the work that all goes into doing a Gingerbread house and will have a great appreciation for them.

Delicious Popcorn treats with JOLLY TIME Pop Corn & Good Cook

Popcorn ballI just spent this past Saturday with my mom and we tried out our treat making skills making some popcorn treats, as I was given a few products from JOLLY TIME & Good Cook to help with this. I can say the time I spent with my mom was great. So buckle up and enjoy my story with plenty of pics.

ProductsI got a 2 QT Sauce pan, Spatula, Candy Thermometer, and a Stainless Steel Rubber Base mixing bowl from Good Cook to use in my popcorn treat making.

JOLLY TIME popcorn ballerJOLLY TIME Pop Corn sent me a variety of popcorn and a popcorn baller. I even got some of their new Smart Balance Butter Light popcorn.

Making the syrupMy mom used these ingredients to make the syrup for the popcorn balls:

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup light-colored corn syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla

Cooking the SyrupWe had to clip the candy thermometer to the sauce pan and brought the mixture to 250 degree F, which is hard-ball stage for about 20 minutes.

Ready to make popcorn ballsMy mom and I both were set up and ready to start making popcorn balls

pouring the syrup over popcornMy mom poured the syrup mixture over the hot popcorn and we stirred gently to coat all of the popcorn. We added in our candies and nuts when the syrup cooled a little. Then we tried to make popcorn balls but for some reason they just wouldn't stick together so my mom never wanting to give up put the pop corn mixture in a pan.

pan popcornWe then added some candy eyes on the top of the popcorn treat and placed it in the refrigerator to cool.

Bacon & Sausage Breakfast Casserole

Cast Iron Grill Press

I used my Good Cook Cast Iron Grill Press to cook my bacon and sausage with.

Cooking BaconI love how crispy or crunchy as my husbands says it the bacon comes out when using the Cast Iron Grill Press. The Cast Iron Grill Press fit great in my frying pans and was super easy to use.

Bread chunksBefore you start cooking the meat it is best to pre soak the box potatoes that are needed. I soaked two boxes of julienne potatoes in hot water to soften them up. After the meat is all cooked I started to put my Breakfast casserole together. I took one loaf of bread and cut it into squares.

Adding the filling I then added the pre soaked potatoes and powder cheese packets that came with the boxed julienne potatoes, one 8oz package of shredded cheese (I used mild cheddar), one pound of cooked breakfast sausage, one package of cooked bacon and 10 eggs scrabbled with a half cup of milk.

Before cookingI mixed everything together in a big baking pan. I pre heated the oven to 400 degrees and cooked the casserole coved with aluminum foil for 45 minutes then uncovered and stirred the casserole and let bake for 15 minutes uncovered to get the top golden.

Done The Bacon & Sausage Breakfast Casserole done and ready to eat. You can eat it the way it is, With Maple syrup like my husband does or with catchup like my son does. This will be a great hit as it is with my family and friends. Everyone who has tried this loves it. I barley ever have any left overs as everyone likes eating the Bacon & Sausage Breakfast Casserole

For all you bacon lovers you can get 25% off on any Good Cook Burger Tools just use the code: BaconLovers.

Avocado Cheese Cake Trifle Recipe

Items to start out withI was given three Good Cook kitchen tools and a challenge to come up with a recipe that used the tools given. Well I asked my wonderful mom to help me and we had a blast making an Avocado Cheese Cake Trifle. So to start out my mom baked a simple butter milk cake with lime zests the night before so it had time to cool.

Avocado SlicerThe first tool my mom used was the Avocado Slicer and wow does this work. I was amazed at how well the Avocado Slicer cleaned out the Avocado and left only the skin behind. The slicer has a nice rounded cushioned handle which helps you control the pressure needed to slice through the Avocado. On the end of the Avocado Slicer is a pointed tip to help you remove the pit.

Avocado before & afterThe Avocados before and after we used the Avocado Slicer on them.

Citrus ZesterThe second tool my mom used was the Citrus Zester. My mom zested a lime, lemon and an orange. My mom loved how easy this was to use and that it was hand held and smaller than her other kitchen tools. Again this has a nice rounded cushioned handle for easy grabbing.

Citrus Reamer

The third tool my mom used was the Citrus Reamer to add some lime juice. This again has a a nice rounded cushioned handle for easy grabbing.

adding ingredientsMy mom added Juice of a half lime, two packs of cream cheese, one and a quarter cup butter milk and a package of vanilla pudding to the three Avocados and mixed them up in her food processor.Mixing ingredientsAfter everything was thoroughly mixed my mom poured the filling into a large bowl and folded in a half tub of whip cream in.

Cake cuttingMy mom then cut the home made butter milk cake with lime zest into bite size pieces.

layeringMy mom then layered the cake with the Avocado Cheese Cake filling until the dish was full.

decoratingThen my mom used the rest of the whip cream on the top of the Avocado Chesse Cake Trifle. My mom has a passion for baking and cooking so she decorated with her special tool lol

More decoratingTo finish my mom mixed the lime, lemon and orange zests in sugar then she applied them to the top of the trifle. My mom used a pair of tweezers to get the zests to lay where she wanted them. I told you my mom has a passion for cooking and baking.
